Product Description
Designed to provide additional coenzyme Q10 for more efficient energy production on a cellular level, which may be useful for older people or anyone leading a busy lifestyle. This product provides 10 mg of coenzyme Q10 per tablet. Vitamin E has been included in this product, as it is believed to have a stimulating effect on coenzyme Q10 production. In addition, vitamin E exerts a protective antioxidant effect. (One-a-day tablets.)

Key Points and Benefits
- CoQ10 and vitamin E offer antioxidant protection against free radicals, the molecules that contribute to ill health and the ageing process.
- CoQ10 is involved in energy production at cell level. Cells are unable to function effectively without CoQ10.
- Natural production of CoQ10 declines with age so supplementing the diet can help maintain adequate levels.
- Very physically active people, like athletes, have a higher requirement for CoQ10 due to their increased metabolic rate, therefore a regular intake can be very helpful.

What is Coenzyme Q10?
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a vital catalyst in the provision of energy for all the body’s cells. It is a redox component in the respiratory chain.

At least ten types of coenzyme Q have been recognised and accordingly designated coenzyme Q0 to coenzyme Q10. The variety of coenzyme Q identified in human tissue is coenzyme Q10. It is a vitamin-like substance found in all cells of the body. Concentrated deposits of this essential biochemical are to be found in the in heart muscle, nervous tissue and blood.

The identification of the involvement of CoQ10 in such a wide diversity of cells is indicative firstly of its importance and secondly of the two major roles in which it is involved: as an essential biochemical link in the formation of energy and as an antioxidant.

CoQ10 functions essentially in the transfer of oxygen and energy between the blood and body cells and between components of those cells (i.e. mitochondria). The cell is unable to function effectively without CoQ10 and when it is deficient the work rate of the cells is adversely affected.

CoQ10 is present in the diet, mainly from meats and oily fish, and it is also manufactured to a small degree within the body from the amino acid methionine but production declines as we age.

It is vital to maintain a continuous supply from a healthy, well balanced diet. Unfortunately today’s busy lifestyle can make eating regular, nutritionally balanced meals difficult. A specially designed supplement, such as Coenzyme Q10 + vitamin E could help.

Who would take Coenzyme Q10+vitamin E?
Particular groups of individuals are more likely to respond to supplementation.

~ Elderly
The processes of ageing affect the ability of the body to manufacture adequate amounts of a number of nutrients in order to maintain a healthy state. In addition the rate of degeneration of the metabolic system increases the rate of breakdown.

Intracellular levels of CoQ10 are reduced as a person grows older and its deficiency appears to be related to ageing effects. Studies indicate that some anti-ageing criteria improve significantly with an increased intake of CoQ10. One aspect of ageing, namely gum deterioration, may benefit by taking extra oral CoQ10. Also a lack of energy in older people may, in part, be connected with lower CoQ10 production in the body.

~ Athletes
Surprisingly, athletes are very similar to elderly populations in that the ability to manufacture adequate supplies of micronutrients in vivo becomes increasingly difficult. The rate of nutrient turnover due to vastly increased metabolic rates accelerates the requirement for a regular intake of Coenzyme Q10.

~ Those who often eat inadequate diets
Today’s busy lifestyle, whilst a cliché, is a problem for many. A healthy diet should form the basis of good nutrition. Unfortunately the modern lifestyle in which individuals work long hours, consume an inadequate diet, drink too much alcohol and smoke too many cigarettes and are affected by pollutants such as vehicle exhaust fumes is a major contributor to the development of deficiency states.

Each of these groups will also be influenced by the additional factors that affect the population as a whole. For example soil status, on which plant sources have been cultivated, farming practices e.g. how cattle which become meat sources have been raised and fed, food distribution and processing procedures and finally by cooking techniques.

What is important about Wassen CoQ10 + vitamin E?
As it is in a tablet form it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. It provides an intake of 10mg for optimal body use, as the body simply excretes excess amounts. However, should someone wish to increase the intake to 30 mg (3 tabs/day) this would be fine.

Vitamin E has been included in this supplement, as it is believed to help with coenzyme Q10 production. In addition, coenzyme Q10 regenerates vitamin E making it more available to neutralise free radicals.
Warning
Whilst all ingredients found in Coenzyme Q10 + Vitamin E are deemed safe for food supplements, which are classed as a food, we always recommend that those planning pregnancy, who are pregnant or breast-feeding consult their doctor prior to taking any food supplements.

Whilst coenzyme Q10 is a natural substance produced by the body, it has not yet been tested during pregnancy as a food supplement. We would therefore advise against taking this product during this time of life, unless specifically advised by a medical professional.

This product is usually very well tolerated. As with any food, there is always a possibility that individuals may have a sensitivity to one or more ingredients contained in the product. We always recommend that in the event of any unusual symptoms being noted upon taking our products they should be discontinued and if necessary a doctor consulted to rule out any other cause for the symptoms.

This product is best taken in the morning or lunchtime as it may have a stimulating effect on sensitive individuals and therefore affect sleep. Transient nausea has been reported as a side-effect of taking coenzyme Q10, however, it would appear that this is rare and may well be ameliorated if the product is taken with food.

Wassen International Ltd
More
Wassen International has researched and introduced many new problem solving nutritional supplements over the last thirty years. The portfolio of products contains a thoughtfully formulated range, containing research proven ingredients, to meet the needs of today.

In theory, a varied well-balanced diet should provide all the daily nutrients necessary for good health but, in reality, this is often not the case. The fast paced world in which we live and work continues to take its toll. Food sourcing and farming methods affect the vital intake of minerals. For example, the amount of selenium, an essential trace mineral, in the UK diet is half what it was 30 years ago. Additionally the effects of pollution and an increasing reliance on convenience foods, can affect the daily intake of vital nutrients. Regular supplementation with vitamins and minerals can help to maintain essential nutrient levels within the body.

Research remains the cornerstone for all Wassen supplements. Nutrition is a comparatively new science and new studies continue to build on the understanding of the way in which nutrients, or lack of them, play a role in our lives. Relying on sound scientific studies to provide the guidance for ingredients, the products contain synergistic combinations of nutrients that help consumers address their health concerns. The company is constantly seeking to develop new innovative supplements.
