Phytoshield is a high potency flavonoid and carotenoid phyto-antioxidant formula giving optimum support levels of these two much needed groups of antioxidants. We have recently launched this product into Cytoplan, Nature's Own sister company and I am delighted to be able to offer it to you too.
Each capsule contains the equivalent of 650mg flavonoids and 15.2mg carotenoids.
To put this into perspective the average British diet gives around 140mg flavonoids and 5mg carotenoids. Doctors and nutritionists are now recommending that for health one needs at least 400mg of flavonoids and 23mg carotenoids so as you can see most of us are short on our intake of these valuable protectors.
If you are one of the few people eating over 5 portions of brightly coloured fruit and vegetables you are likely to be achieving the level of carotenoids and flavonoids that you need for health. Carotenoids
There are over 600 carotenoids in nature., They are the major yellow and red pigments in many fruit and vegetables. As with the flavonoids the carotenoids have specific tissue affinities. The main sphere of action of the carotenoids is their ability to maintain intercellular connections. It is believed that as long as cells remain in contact they behave normally in body tissue. As soon as they lose this connection their behaviour becomes abnormal.. Cancer cells are deficient in terms of intra-cellular connection. The ability of the carotenoids to make cancer cells begin to communicate with surrounding healthy cells is probably why they can induce cultured cancer cells to return to normal. This has been reflected in human and animal studies where carotenoids have been used to prevent the development of precancerous conditions. The evidence suggests that carotenoids possess an intrinsic ability to regulate the key growth controlling genes. This is an area for which our understanding is still very much in its infancy but tremendously exciting in terms of future potential. Certainly until the mechanism is better understood it is wise to respect the healing power in foods and consume them in their natural state as much as we possible can.
